Bendelta, a consultancy specialising in strategy, psychology, and leadership development, needed a dynamic and adaptable workplace that supports their unique work methodology. Their vision was to create a multifunctional environment that enhances collaboration, creativity, and flexibility—without feeling like a traditional office.

Located in a heritage building in York Street, Sydney, the space also needed to honour its architectural integrity while integrating modern workplace design elements.

The Building, 32 York Street, Sydney

The Bendelta office is located within a heritage-listed building, uniquely combining historical charm with modern workplace functionality. The 450 sqm office space extends across multiple heritage structures, retaining key architectural elements such as exposed brick, timber posts, and period features that connect the past with the present.

Situated across from another heritage-listed building with a striking tiled façade, the workplace benefits from a visually rich and historically significant location in Sydney’s CBD. The design challenge was to create a contemporary workspace that respects and preserves the heritage character while integrating innovative workplace solutions.

Additionally, the fit-out was required to meet strict acoustic performance standards, ensuring that noise levels remain controlled in line with Green Star Design and As Built v1.3 Credit 10 Acoustic Comfort parameters.

Workplace Strategy

Axiom collaborated with Bendelta to develop a strategic workplace vision that aligns with their business goals and work methodology. Through an in-depth strategy process, we identified key drivers that shaped the final design:

  • A larger, open floorplate to accommodate growth and encourage team collaboration
  • Acoustically controlled presentation suites for workshops, learning sessions, and client meetings
  • Hybrid work enablement with technology integration for seamless in-office and remote collaboration
  • A strong emphasis on a connected, community-driven environment to foster engagement
  • A workplace that felt like a multifunctional playground—open, transformative, creative, and rooted in science

Workplace Design

Our interior design approach translated these strategy insights into a highly adaptable and inspiring workspace. Key design elements included:

  • Quiet pods and a dedicated sound-controlled room for podcast recording and virtual presentations
  • Flexible spaces separated by curtains, allowing easy transition between small meetings and large gatherings
  • Non-traditional, residential-style materials, ensuring a warm and inviting aesthetic
  • A visually open arrival area, reinforcing Bendelta’s welcoming and collaborative culture
  • Workstation reuse – The current workstations have a timber look tabletop and adjustable height for sitting and standing these were reused, minimising waste.

To respect the heritage nature of the building, we retained key architectural features such as exposed brick and timber posts, blending history with modern workplace functionality.

Sustainability & Building Performance

Bendelta’s office aligns with the high environmental standards of 32-36 York Street, which is committed to achieving:

To support these sustainability goals, Axiom incorporated:

  • Reused existing furniture and materials to minimise waste
  • Retention of heritage architectural features to reduce environmental impact
  • Acoustic performance measures in compliance with Green Star standards

These sustainability initiatives ensure that Bendelta’s workspace is both environmentally responsible and future-proofed for evolving workplace needs.

The Result

The transformed space not only met Bendelta’s vision but exceeded expectations. The flexible, fit-for-purpose design has enabled them to host more events in-house, reducing the need for external venues. Employee engagement has also increased, with more staff choosing to work from the office—a testament to the workplace’s success.
