Wingate is a leading investment house focused on property private debt, mid-market corporate debt and direct property investment.
Wingate had outgrown their existing space and wanted to expand across a full floor of the prestigious 101 Collins Street in the heart of Melbourne’s CBD. They asked Axiom to create a new innovative, future - focused design, respecting the traditions of the industry and infuse hospitality into the workplace, improving the experience for their team and clients.
The Wingate project utilised Axiom's integrated methodology of Workplace Strategy including Axiom's proprietary workplace design assessment tool wrkx INDEX TM , Interior Design, Project Management and Construction to realise the vision of the team at Wingate with a stunning new office.
This prestigious project has been recognised with silver awards at the Better Future Awards 2023, Australian Interior Design Awards 2024, and the global WILD Design Awards 2024.
The new workplace had to support Wingate's agile ways of working, increasing their floor plate and providing space for a variety of work styles and functions, while bringing the organisation together within a cohesive workplace culture, all working towards the same organisational values and goals. Natural light and acoustics were an important consideration of the layout orientation and design, enhancing the look and feel and improving the wellness and wellbeing of the team.
Entering Wingate’s new workplace, clients and team members alike will feel the warmth and welcome of an organisation who believes people are the strength and success of their business. With a warm colour palette, rich timbers and comfortable seating throughout, the concierge area creates a first impression of a contemporary, people-centric organisation. The featured marble reception desk calls to the traditional values of a private investment house, with a contemporary twist.
The breakout space is the cultural centre of Wingate. With a variety of seating choices and a spacious, energetic feel, it was designed to bring people together and offer opportunities for team members to step away from their work and connect socially with their colleagues. It is in these social connections that workplace culture is truly formed and maintained. The breakout area continues to showcase Wingate’s values and business objectives through a mix of tradition and innovation, to encourage a positive and productive workplace culture where every team member feels connected to the organisation and their values and objectives.
The design was inspired by magnificent sweeping views of the CBD and beyond. Leveraging the elevation of the 48th floor, the spatial planning celebrates the natural light flooding in through the large windows around the perimeter.
They bring an important connection to the outside world and allow people to experience the many benefits of biophilia – the innate human instinct to connect with nature and other human beings.
The central entrance is embraced by a circular space that flows from the client-facing areas, through to the back of house and the breakout space. This flow encourages movement between teams, accidental meetings and collaboration. The spatial planning has been expertly crafted to encourage social interaction and a sense of belonging for all team members.
The elevated, humanistic goals of Wingate’s new workplace continue into the variety of work points and meeting spaces, including a large, inviting boardroom, a range of different sized meeting rooms, open collaboration zones and dedicated focus pods. Each space is versatile and can support the different ways team members work. Technology is seamlessly integrated into every space to ensure connection with clients, a hybrid workforce, and the wider world.
Axiom underpins all projects with a focus on sustainability and social responsibility. Where possible, we re-used and re-purposed existing furniture and fit-out elements in a way that seamlessly flows into the design. We selected products sourced from manufacturers who support circular economies, carbon neutral initiatives and recycled materials.
The suppliers selected for this project have implemented reconciliation plans and initiatives to make a tangible difference in the lives of young individuals, through training and development.
The design of Wingate’s new workplace moves beyond simply building an environment. We have created a space that enhances the human experience – in and out of the physical workplace.

Change Management
Post occupancy the Axiom strategy team implemented a change management process for the Wingate team to transition into the new workplace. Not only did the workplace meet the brand and aesthetic goals, but the new functional layout directly improved employee performance and collaboration. These noticeable improvements translated into increased business performance and proved ROI on Wingate's investment in a new bespoke office fit-out.
The Finished Project
Wingate awarded Axiom a perfect 10 NPS score for the project's completion, highlighting the high level of service and professionalism from the Axiom team, and the successful and timely, on-budget construction delivery of the overall project.
